Occupational Therapy

Parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often wonder what occupational therapy (OT) is and why it may be helpful. At MonArk, our occupational therapy programs are designed to support children who experience delays in motor development, including both fine and gross motor skills. Our experienced Occupational Therapists work hand-in-hand with Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and Speech Therapists to create a coordinated, individualized plan of care for every child.

We also use the same data system across all disciplines (OT, Speech, and ABA) which parents can access at any time. This ensures transparency, consistency, and seamless communication as your child progresses.

Fine motor skills include everyday tasks such as handwriting, cutting with scissors, grasping objects, and buttoning clothing. OT also strengthens essential daily living skills such as putting on shoes, managing clothing fasteners, and other self-care routines. Through targeted, collaborative occupational therapy sessions, children gain greater independence, confidence, and success in completing these important tasks.

How Does Occupational Therapy Work?

Occupational therapy is a specialized part of our ABA and therapy programs. Each session is conducted 1:1 with a licensed occupational therapist and typically lasts one hour per week. Our therapists work with your child on personalized goals that enhance their ability to perform everyday activities, improve motor skills, and build social and play skills.

By integrating occupational therapy with our comprehensive ABA therapy program, we ensure that these skills are reinforced throughout the day, allowing your child to progress in multiple areas of development.

Skills Developed Through Occupational Therapy Include:

  • Fine Motor Skills: Handwriting, using utensils, buttoning, zipping, and grasping objects
  • Gross Motor Skills: Navigating playground equipment, balance, coordination
  • Play Skills: Age-appropriate toy use, structured games, social play with peers
  • Daily Living Skills: Dressing, self-care routines, feeding, and personal hygiene

Our team conducts a thorough evaluation to identify your child’s strengths and areas of need. From there, we create individualized long- and short-term goals, ensuring every session is tailored to help your child thrive. Parents receive a clear goal plan after the initial assessment so you can track progress and celebrate achievements along the way.
